SOPHIA LAI

    Originally from New Zealand, Sophia has completed a Masters in Piano and Pedagogy at the University of Melbourne under Glenn Riddle and a Bachelors in Piano Performance at the University of Auckland under Qu Yong.

 

  Sophia has attained scholarships and prizes in national competitions in New Zealand, including the Tauranga Piano Programme, Warrington cup as well as a finalist in the Ronisch Piano competition. Sophia has also attained Grade 8 ABRSM in Piano with High Distinction as well as a Licentiate (LTCL) in Piano from Trinity College London. She has performed in concerts and Masterclasses of concert pianists Terence Dennis, Stephen De Pledge, Caroline Almonte amongst others.

 

    Sophia has studied the violin as a second instrument and holds an LTCL from Trinity College London. She was a member of the Auckland Youth Orchestra for three years and attended the Young Euro Classic music festival in Berlin.

 

    To diversify her education and knowledge of piano performance Sophia has relocated to Melbourne, Australia in the hopes of furthering postgraduate studies. She believes music is a constant journey of learning and it is important to continue to add to present knowledge. Sophia is passionate about music education and seeks to develop in her students intrinsic motivation for practice as well as foster a lasting love for music.

 

 

    She also has considerable experience as an accompanist and enjoys collaborating with other instrumentalists.
